How do sleeping bags keep me warm and comfortable?

Sleeping bags keep you warm by confining the heat generated from your body inside the bag and by keeping the cold air out. Other factors such as insulation, material of the bag and environment also affect warmth in your sleeping bag. With sufficient insulation inside a sleeping bag, the heat produced by the body will be trapped inside the bag, making it warm and comfortable. The materials used to make a sleeping bag is also a factor for there are some fabrics that can allow air to escape while there are others that can trap your body heat inside the bag. Lastly, the environment such as the sleeping mat or the tent you use also have an effect on warmth.
